Snorkeling: Gateway to the Undersea World

Do those "Flipper" reruns and old Jacques Cousteau
documentaries awaken a longing to bring what you
see on the television screen to life?
Many of us have discovered the joys of snorkeling.
Like diving, it gives you a "front-row seat" to
watch the incredible "undersea theater." Unlike diving,
it requires little more than mask, snorkel, fins, and
basic swim skills.
Three great destinations stand out as "must-see"
snorkeling paradises. You can get to West Palm Beach,
Florida by car or plane. By day, enjoy snorkeling
with the varieties of fish and other ocean life that
populate the Atlantic waters bordering the city. By
night, find out what attracts A-list celebrities to
the city time and again.
Grand Cayman is another snorkeling hot spot. One of the
coolest things about snorkeling in this Caribbean hot spot
is swimming with the stingrays populating these waters.
Don't be surprised if they swim right up to you!
When Charles Darwin visited the Galapagos Islands,
he didn't have the opportunity to see what you will
on a snorkeling trip here. Most of us know about the
exotic creatures that populate the islands themselves,
but there are populations of equally exotic creatures
populating this Pacific Ocean paradise that makes up
the westernmost territory of Ecuador.
Any able-bodied man, woman, boy, or girl with moderate
swimming ability can enjoy a snorkeling outing. Obviously,
you need to exercise caution with any water sport. While
snorkeling is easy for children, seniors, and everyone in-
between, stay within the limits of your conditioning and
your ability. Novices should seek expert guidance. Never
swim alone. A little common sense applied to every outing
will make for a lifetime of snorkeling enjoyment for you
and those you love!
