Ideas about your next Cruise

Where will your next cruise take you? How about the
Caribbean, a favorite destination for many cruise ships.
There are many departure points, and from somewhere like
Fort Lauderdale, cruises ships set out for destinations
such as Antigua, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica,
Florida, Grand Cayman, Louisiana, Martinique, Mexico,
Puerto Rico, South Carolina, St. Lucia, Texas and the
Virgin Islands.
You could try a cruise in the Mediterranean calling at such
destinations such as, Greece, Turkey, Italy, France,
Spain, Gibraltar, Portugal and other Mediterranean
countries. When visiting Gibraltar you must check out the
Rock but look out for the Apes. These are known as the
Barbary Apes and they want you to feed them. I have seen
people being attacked by the apes in their search for food.
It can be very scary if it is you being attacked but very
funny if you are watching it. If it happens to you just let
go of the food and the Apes will leave you alone. It is the
food they are after.
Europe also has many other places to cruise and one of my
favorites is the fiords of Norway with their towering
cliffs and dramatic scenery. Cruising this area also lets
you travel above the Arctic circle to the land of the
Midnight sun where the sun never sets in the summer but
alas it never rises in the winter so plan your trip for the
summer. Alaska has similar scenery so perhaps you can
cruise closer to home.
Some US cruise ships spend the summer months cruising the
West coast of the US and the winter months in the
Caribbean. These ships needs to reposition themselves in
the spring and fall and do so by traveling through the
Panama Canal which is a unique experience and comes highly
recommended. This marvel of engineering was started by the
French but completed by the US in the early part of the
last century. From the Gatun Locks at the Atlantic end of
the canal to the Miraflores Locks, which lower ships over
50 feet to sea level at the canals Pacific terminus, you
will marvel at one of the greatest construction projects
in the world.
However, there are more than just seas to cruise on. You
could try cruising the great rivers of the US. Try the
Mississippi a river steeped in history and tradition.
Some of the boats cruising this river, (they are called
boats on rivers not ships), have special theme cruises
such as WW2 remembrance cruises or Civil War cruises. Just
think about where you could visit. Cities such as Little
Rock, Pittsburg, New Orleans or St Louis.
You could also try Europe and cruise on the river Rhine,
Elbe, Danube, Seine or Rhone rivers to name just a few, or
you could try your hand at captaining your own boat on the
canal systems in France or the UK. Do not forget further to
the east of Europe there are many other countries offering
river cruises. There are also rivers such as the Nile and
Amazon as well. Whatever you choose to do, just enjoy
yourselves.
