Halloween is the time for fun and frolic as everyone is in a
festive mood. Kids and adults enjoy the crisp air, the fun
costumes, and of course, the candies. All this goes to make
the traditional All Hallow's Eve a night to remember!
Unfortunately, many a Halloween have turned into a
nightmare. Year after year, many children end up victims of
accidents, some even quite serious, instead of merrily
eating candy in the safety of their own homes. You need to
educate yourself and your children about the appropriate
safety rules so that your Halloween is a safe Halloween.

Halloween takes place at the end of October when most parts
of the country are experiencing chilly weather. The costume
for your child must be planned carefully to protect him from
the cold. Long sleeves, long pants and layers of clothes are
a good idea accompanied by athletic or walking shoes. In
fact, it might be better if you can plan an alternate event
if the weather gets too bad instead of having your kids
traipsing around the neighborhood for the traditional trick
or treats. For instance, attending a neighborhood or
community Halloween party would be a fun alternative for the
entire family and your kids can be safe from the cold, wet
weather.

The reason why so many accidents happen on Halloween is
because the kids are out after dark. Moreover, they are in
dark costumes. Very often they may be virtually invisible to
a car's driver. So, would not it be a better idea to leave
around dusk rather than late night. Also, you and your child
should carry a flashlight so that you do not step on
something dangerous in the dark.

Make sure you sew some reflective strips on to your child's
costume, both at the front and at the back. These days, most
ready made outfits come with these reflective strips. In the
last few years, flickering jewelry and pins have gained
popularity as Halloween accessories because they add to the
safety as well as look decorative. You must check your
child's mask carefully to ensure that the can breathe
normally through the holes around the mouth and nose. And
most importantly, make sure the eye holes are such that the
child can see properly through them.

Finally, all candy needs to be inspected before a child
consumes anything. If candy is open or unwrapped,
immediately dispose of the treats. After all items
have been checked and everything is verified to be
wrapped, you can enjoy a safe Halloween! This holiday is
a favorite of children of all ages, but can quickly turn
into a nightmare if the proper safety precautions are not
taken.
