The biggest and most expensive purchase one makes is the
family home, the second most expensive item you are likely to
purchase is the family car. Therefore, you should make your
choice wisely.what criteria should you look at when
purchasing your car, Family needs, budget and a car that is
reliable , easy to maintain. Decide how much you can afford
since that will dictate the make and model of the car,
the milage and overall condition if your buying a used car.
When purchasing a car, check the price is valued fairly.
This can be done easily online with Kelley Blue Book,
kbb.com. This will give you the market value for cars of all
ages, mileage and condition. And it also gives you
additional information, such as the insurance group for that
vehicle and depreciation rates. Once you have this
information to hand, you can go about finding and purchasing
your ideal vehicle. Once you have found your ideal car, it
is advisable to have an independent vehicle inspection
carried out by a qualified mechanic. A fee is charged but is
well worth it for the peace of mind that it gives.
You can carry out an inspection your self and check the
exterior body work for corrosion, also look for mismatches
in the body paint work. Color mismatches are an indication
that the car has been repaired following damage to the paint
work and body. The interior should also be checked. Do the
seats feel supportive? Are the seat belts tensing on the
passengers moving rapidly forward? Also when released do
they return to their original position quickly? The gas and
brake pedals and condition of steering wheel should also be
checked. Are all of these things in harmony with the car
mileage. Excessive wear and tear to the seat coverings,
steering wheel and pedals is usually a sign of heavy usage
and therefore heavy mileage. Also check the brake pads and
tire tread depth, since these things are imperative to
safety.
The service history is important to look at, therfore
inquire of the owner if he has a record of the service, see
that the paperwork is consistent by making inquiries from
the garage that carried out the service checks. Unusually
low purchases price may be an indicator that the car may be
stolen. Therefore check the vehicle serial number under
the hood.
A test drive is very important, the car should be driven on
the the highways and freeways and manoeuvres should also
been undertaken to see if the car is right for you. Once
your satisfied all that is left is to negotiate a price.
